Why do you need backflow testing?
Backflow testing is a vital part of ensuring the backflow prevention devices are in good working order, as valves are prone to picking up impurities in the water supply as well as wear and tear of key components. The seals in the devices need to be watertight and able to withstand pressures of up to 1500kpa. Devices also contain spring mechanism parts which can lose their tension over periods of time causing the valve to fail hence defeating the purpose of the backflow valve. It is for this reason that it is necessary for experienced personnel to test the devices.
Backflow Prevention has the expertise, qualifications and equipment to test and repair these devices to ensure they function correctly. We ensure we liaise directly with the backflow device manufacturers to maintain a current expertise and knowledge of the equipment.
In the Australian/New Zealand Standard 3500.1, it is a requirement that a qualified backflow plumber conducts annual backflow testing, with the maximum period being 12 months between each test. Test reports are then sent to the relevant authorities as part of the compliance requirements. Backflow plumbers are required to ensure their backflow device testing equipment is calibrated on a yearly basis to maintain consistency.
